In the world, some flags (national, territorial, etc.) are banned. The sections are those of the banned flags and not the countries banning the flags.

Afghanistan[]

The Afghan flag has been changed to that of the Taliban since 2021, and usage of the Taliban’s flag is banned in Germany as per Strafgesetzbuch §86a.

Belarus[]

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Belarus’s flag was banned from certain events like the Olympics. Belarusian athletes have to participate under neutral teams (Individual Neutral Athletes for the Olympics, Neutral Paralympic Athletes for the Paralympics).

China[]

The Chinese flag is banned in some countries with anti-communist laws. The Republic of China has previously banned the flags and not but it has since been lifted.

Germany[]

Nazi Germany[]

Usage of Nazi insignia is illegal within the Federal Republic of Germany as per Strafgesetzbuch §86a. Nazi insignia is also banned in France, Brazil, Belgium, China, and Russia.

Japan[]

Rising Sun Flag[]

The Rising Sun Flag is banned within South Korea and the Russian Federation. An episode of PAW Patrol had to replace a depiction of a Rising Sun flag on a headband with a plain white headband.

LGBTQIA+ Pride Flag(s)[]

Some jurisdictions make it illegal to promote or discuss LGBTQIA+ issues and content, including displaying the rainbow flag or other flags for sexual orientations and gender identities. Common examples of jurisdictions banning such flags include some American states, Russia, and states with Islamic sharia law (e.g. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, etc.)

Taiwan[]

Usage of the Taiwanese flag is banned on Mainland China.
