Censorship[]

  • In the Elmo's World episode "Mail", the part where Elmo humps Computer was censored in some 2010's PBS airings of the episode.
  • The episode in which The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz appeared on Sesame Street was banned around the world and was considered a lost episode of the show.
  • The show was banned in Mississippi in 1970 due to showing children of different ethnicities playing together.
  • The episode in which a hurricane struck Sesame Street was censored due to 9/11 and had some Elmo's World episodes at the end, considering it to be a little dark, like the Birds episode in which Elmo became a peacock in the imagination sequence.
  • The episode in which a fire destroyed Sesame Street was pulled in the UK.
    • But the Elmo centered segments from the early 2000s to onwards; around seasons 31 to onwards on Channel 5 in the Milkshake block and Pop for good while the show was released on DVD from Abbey Home Media.
  • The episode in which a bird gets lost from Paraguay was pulled from some PBS airings and is mostly shown on some Sprout airings and features the "Sleep" episode from Elmo's World with Elmo as a squirrel in the imagination sequence.
  • In Sprout airings of episodes 3986 and 4193, where the Elmo's World "Sleep" sequence is shown, the bed is audibly saying "Most swirls do." while the closed captions read "Most squirrels do."

International[]

  • In this Hebrew dub, Zvika Fohrman was returned as a voice actor of Elmo but with a Mecha robot and the localization logo’s name was Hahabubot due to the Israeli-Hamas War all over Hop’s airings after the localized versions of Rechov Sumsum and The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo in Israel.
    • The similar case does the same in different countries like Asia, Brazil, Iran, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, and Portugal.
      • The German version of Sesame Street does it ends its 50th anniversary year and airings between RTL, YouTube and NDR.

HBO Max[]

In 2015, HBO Max began a 10-year deal to stream new episodes of Sesame Street through 2025. In August 2022, 200 of the episodes were pulled. However, it was reported that the issue was budgetary as parent company Warner Bros. Discovery was cutting costs.[1]

Where to find it uncensored[]

A mostly uncensored version was released on home video in Canada. The episode in which The Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz appeared on Sesame Street is still missing from home video releases, but it can be found on streaming in Canada.
