Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version are Japanese role-playing video games that were developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. The games were released for the Nintendo DS on September 28, 2006 in Japan, in 2007 internationally, and in 2008 in South Korea. The video games were censored in Europe to modify the sprite of Registeel when playing the game in a language other than English. Due to gambling laws, the games were censored in South Korea. Every international version of the games also removed a reference to death.
Censorship[]
International censorship[]
- The scene where an Old Man NPC says "Every Pokémon and Human will die one day and that is precisely why we shine." was changed to "You blaze with so much vitality."
- The Sinnoh Folk Story 3 book no longer mentions how people used to marry Pokémon and instead it talks about how Pokémon and humans used to eat together at the same table.
European censorship[]
(All international censorship applies)
- In the non-English European release, Registeel uses a different pose, due to the uncensored pose being similar to the Nazi salute.
South Korean censorship[]
(All international censorship applies)
- Due to gambling being illegal in South Korea, slot machines were replaced by game machines which drop 5 to 20 Coins a day. Multiple texts in the Game Corner were modified to remove references to casino gambling.
Where to find it uncensored[]
The original Japanese versions of the games are uncensored. To play the least censored version of the games in PAL territories, select the language as English.
