Censorship

Drakengard is a JRPG that was developed by Cavia and it was published by Square Enix and Gathering of Developers (PAL) and it was released on September 11, 2003. In order to ensure ESRB didn't give the game an AO rating or reject it, the game's international release was censored due to heavy references to dark subject matter that was in the Japanese version. Bonanza Bros. got the similar censorship with its story being censored however more mildly

International Censorship[]

  • Incestuous undertones in the relationship between Caim and Furiae were toned down.
  • It is not made clear thar Furiae kills herself due to not wanting her feelings for Caim to be known.
  • Arioch in the uncensored version lost her mind when her husband and children died and she lost her womb, while the censored version only mentions that she lost her mind when her family died.
  • References to Leonard being a homosexual pedophile were toned down.
