Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime that is part of the Dragon Ball franchise. Dragon Ball Z was made by Toei Animation. The anime was released in Japan on April 26, 1989 and ended January 31, 1996. The anime later aired on Nicktoons and the CW Vortexx block. Due to The CW and Nicktoons targeting a younger demographic some scenes were censored, as a result violence was toned down, drug references were removed and references to death were removed. Same thing happens with the international releases.

Italian censorship[]

When the show was reaired on Italia 1, many kinds of heavy video censorship in almost every episode featuring blood were carried out.

During the original release on VHS by DeAgostini in 1998, had slight censorship in its dialogues. However, in 2000, when the anime went to Italia 1, it had only a few video censorships compared to the original Dragon Ball.

General censorship[]

  • Goku's Saiyan name, Kakaroth, is changed to "Kaaroth".

Episode 80

  1. This episode was skipped during the 2011-12 rerun for being too violent[1].

Episode 85

  1. This episode was also skipped during Italia 1's airing of the show due to excessive violence.

Episode 253

  1. The scene in which two gunmen kill an old couple for fun was cut during a rerun, as the showing of said scene costed a €100.000 fine to Italia 1[2].
