Deadpool is an American superhero movie directed by Tim Miller. It was produced in association with Marvel and released by 20th Century Fox on February 12, 2016 as the eighth movie of the X-Men series. Some of its international releases and television broadcasts were banned or censored.


International censorship[]

USA censorship[]


  • Strong language was censored on the Freeform television premiere.


  • All uses of the word "fuck" were removed. Sexuality was toned down. This is no longer the case as of September 2022.

Chinese censorship[]

  • The movie was banned in mainland China due to excessive violence, sexuality, and nudity.

Indian censorship[]

To get the movie released in India with an A rating (adults only), strong language, sexuality, nudity, and gore were all reduced. Even the Indian DVD releases are censored, using the Indian theatrical version.

Total of nearly four minutes were cut, plus substitutions.

  • 'Asshole', 'motherf**ker', 'balls', 'blowjob', 'touching myself', '24 ball gags', 'vagina', 'bitch', 'dick', 'suck a cock', 'testicles' and 'dildo' were all muted.
  • Nudity, sounds of thrusting, and crude innuendo were removed from a sex scene. All nude images in a strip club were also removed.
  • A poster showing a woman touching her vagina was removed.
  • A scene of self-harm (Deadpool cutting his own hand) was replaced with shots of Colossus.

Where to find it uncensored[]

The American theatrical release and their home video releases are uncensored. The Indian Blu-ray discs are uncensored. FX now airs the movie uncensored. Hulu carries it uncensored despite the censorship on the Disney+ streaming platform.
